Thank you to our community!
We are so excited to celebrate the opening of our FEMA Storm Shelter/Multi-Purpose Facility. This is a very special day for the Wildcats. This project started in conversation with the Board after the Joplin tornado. After much discussion and planning, it was decided to place a proposition on the ballot. Our community overwhelming approved the bond issue on April 7, 2015 and we were later awarded the FEMA Grant on September 26, 2017.
Safety is always our first priority. This addition to our campus will provide a shelter for our children in dangerous weather and also provide comfort to parents and administration, knowing that we have our children in the best place possible. This facility will serve as a multi-purpose facility for our district, providing additional space for activities during the day and evening hours. The building will be open during a tornado warning.
I am extremely grateful to our patrons for supporting this project by passing the bond issue on April 7, 2015. It was their support and commitment that allowed us the 25% match necessary to apply for the FEMA Grant. We also thank our present and past Board members, who held a vision, inspiration, and dedication to this project!
A special thank you to the SEMA committee for selecting the Billings School as the recipient of the FEMA Grant, and to FEMA for funding the $1,125,000 of Federal Funds to make this project possible on September 26, 2016. The total projected cost was $1,908,800. Lastly, we thank everyone who worked on this project. We really appreciate your time and effort! This new facility will provide immediate safety to our children and community, and may also save lives in Billings, Missouri for years to come.
